VEPEAG was established in October 1997 by individual Farmers and Exporters. The main activities and the operational areas of the association are the production of vegetables all year round for international and local markets as well as the supply of seeds and agro-chemicals to producers. Sweet potatoes, Okra, Chili, Tinda, Shallot and Turia are the main vegetables cultivated. Membership currently stands at 460 and can be found in seven regions of the country namely, Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central and Northern Region. VEPEAG operates a secretariat in Accra and relates with the regions through the regional executives of the association.

VEPEAG works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), the Ghana Export Promotion Agency (GEPA), the University of Ghana (UG) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in Ghana.
